Why I do what I do.
In my first year working with Project Venture in my capacity as an Experiential Educator, I have witnessed the efficacy of the programming and training that we provide to be invaluable to the Native and Indigenous youth we serve. The empowerment and legitimizing of Indigenous epistemology and the metaphysical world through adventure-based programming is my motivation. Through the youth’s work of leadership, compassion and understanding, we, as Native/Indigenous people, are forming and rediscovering how to maintain to be exceptionally decent people in this day in age.
As an Experiential Educator, I directly facilitate in-school and out-of-school programming. Facilitating offers plenty of opportunities to help participants learn concrete skills such as rock climbing, fire building, and wilderness navigation. There are also opportunities to help students grasp more abstract concepts such as leadership, collaboration, service and perseverance. This is all cultivated through a Native and Indigenous perspective relative to the communities that I serve, at the same time providing guidance inspired by my Indigenous community and upbringing.
When I am Not at Project Venture
you can find me enjoying the comforts of modern living. I greatly appreciate movie theatres where I partake in independent films. I like films, from student films to proofs of concepts, short animations, and more prominent production arthouse films. You can also find me reading many nonfiction books that spark my interest and cause me to put my worldviews into question. You will also see me spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy broadening my horizons through arts, sciences and ceremonies.
