Guwaadzi Houba! Dushinameh Guuwhish-Sits-Huno.

Hello, Everyone! My name is Nicholas (Nick) Felipe or Where the Rainwater Gathers of the Water Clan from Acoma Pueblo. I currently live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies (with a focus on Anthropology and Innovation Entrepreneurship) from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Why do you do what you do?

Growing up, I always listened and reflected on the wisdom shared by our elders and valued community members based on their many years of experience and adventure. I remember three simple sayings that really stuck with me. These sayings included: One. The youth are the answer to our ancestor's prayers. Two. We are products of the communities that have raised and shaped us. Third, we are lifelong learners. I hold these teachings close as I walk through this world because I find happiness and joy in serving others, the core value of community.

As an Experiential Educator with Project Venture, I engage with youth throughout the Albuquerque and greater NM area by facilitating various activities, experiences, and outings. Our Albuquerque team primarily works with the students at the Native American Community Academy (NACA). Many would describe these students as “Urban Natives” since NACA serves the native population and communities in and around the Albuquerque area.

When I'm not at Project Venture, you can find me spending time with family and friends. I enjoy movies, games (video and board), soccer, other team sports, fishing and camping. I enjoy cooking and trying new things. I am connected to and love participating in cultural activities and ceremonies.
